SCHOOL SUPPORT

There are a lot of resources already available that take a generic approach to mental health in schools — they focus on general awareness, wellbeing promotion, and broad strategies for supporting pupils.

What I can offer is something more specific and targeted. It’s about supporting staff to think in depth about children whose behaviours or emotional presentation raise questions or concerns, and to help them understand what might be happening beneath the surface.

The focus is on building reflective capacity in staff — creating space to slow down, notice, and explore the meaning behind behaviour, using a psychoanalytic frame to support understanding and action. â€‹

SUPPORT FOR INDIVIDUAL CHILDREN

  • Classroom observation: Observation and report on an individual child, to contribute to an assessment (would need parental consent).

  • State of mind assessment: A one off appointment with a child, to inform how schools might think about and support the child (would need parental consent).

  • Consultation on a specific child: Is a referral to CAMHS indicated? Help writing referrals.

SUPPORT FOR STAFF

  • Reflective practice: School bringing their experiences and a case study, facilitating a thinking space for staff.

  • Work discussion: ongoing support for Staff over a period of time through facilitated case discussions.

  •  Supporting the Emotional Well-being of Children in Secondary Schools:  A 6 week programme for Staff exploring child development, psychoanalytic ideas and emotionla wellbeing.
